Call for papers

The International Conference on the Use of Mobile Information and Communications Technology in Africa (UMICTA 2014), to be held at STIAS Conference Centre, Stellenbosch, South Africa:   9-11 December 2014

Papers are invited from researchers and students associated with research institutions in South Africa and Uganda.

The conference forms part of ongoing collaboration between the department of E&E Engineering (through the MTN Mobile Intelligence Lab and MIH Media Lab) at Stellenbosch University, and the College of Computing and Information Sciences (through the AI lab) at Makerere University. Academic work will be presented after a two-cycle rigorous review process that includes constructive feedback during the first cycle. Academic sessions will be interspersed with open industry-focussed discussion sessions, where invited industry partners of the labs will participate.

The authors of the five best academic papers from Makerere University will receive paid-for flights and accommodation. A “Best Paper Award” and a “Best Student Paper Award” will be given to the author(s) of a full paper presented at the conference, selected by the Awards Committee.

The conference proceedings will be published with an ISBN number. No conference registration fee will be charged.

Paper submission

Papers are invited from researchers and students associated with research institutions in South Africa and Uganda. Complete manuscripts in PDF format must be electronically submitted on easychair at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=umicta2014, following the standard IEEE conference proceedings format.

Abstracts should be no more than 250 words. Full paper submissions may not exceed 5 pages.
