Smart Energy Optimisation For Schools And Public Buildings
The electricity supply in South Africa has been an issue of concern in the past few years as the supply authorities struggle to meet national demand. Consequently, load shedding has been rampant across the country.
In local schools and public institutions, one of the key electricity usage drivers are the HVAC appliances and systems employed to ensure environmental ergonomics and safe working spaces. This research seeks to leverage on modern monitoring and control concepts to monitor the energy usage in local schools and come up with the best model for optimisation so as to reduce electricity usage. The focus will be on improving the available energy data acquisition systems and some of the key concepts to be employed in the research include Internet of Things, smart sensors and 4IR. Additionally, the focus will also be on ensuring that the solution is affordable and adoptable for most local schools.
