JP Meijers

Ad-hoc Wildlife
Masters in Engineering Student

JP's research is in the field of wildlife tracking and monitoring. His focus is on the communication media used for this purpose because general available networks, like GSM, are not available in all remote areas. As power usage is a big constraint, connectivity by means of satellite is also unpractical. Attention is thus given to long range radio links to create an extension to the existing GSM network. The low power constraint dictates the use of lower radio frequencies which, in turn, requires larger antennas. Therefore his research touches on antenna theory, information theory, computer networks and embedded design.
